The Government of India is set to launch the FASTag Annual Pass on August 15, 2025, aiming to simplify toll payments and enhance highway travel for private vehicle owners. Priced at Rs 3,000, the pass will allow unlimited travel for one year or up to 200 toll-free trips on all National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE), whichever comes first.

What is the FASTag Annual Pass?

The FASTag Annual Pass is a prepaid toll pass crafted for private vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans. It removes the need for per-trip toll payments at specified NH and NE toll plazas, providing a seamless and budget-friendly travel experience. The pass works with the existing FASTag system, utilizing RFID technology to automatically deduct toll fees.

How to Activate the FASTag Annual Pass

Users can activate the Annual Pass through the Rajmargyatra app or the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) portal. Upon confirming vehicle eligibility and FASTag registration tied to a valid Vehicle Registration Number (VRN), users pay Rs 3,000 for the base year 2025-26. Activation is usually completed within two hours of payment verification.

Key Features and Usage Rules

  • The pass is valid for one year from activation or 200 trips, whichever occurs first.
  • It is non-transferable and valid only for the vehicle on which the FASTag is registered.
  • Existing FASTag users do not need to buy a new tag; the pass can be activated on their current FASTag if it meets eligibility criteria.
  • Trips are counted differently based on toll plaza types: each crossing counts as one trip at point-based plazas, while one pair of entry and exit counts as one trip at closed toll plazas.
  • The Annual Pass is optional; users can continue with regular FASTag transactions if they prefer.

Benefits for Frequent Travelers

The pass offers significant cost savings for regular highway commuters by removing per-trip toll charges. It also reduces congestion at toll plazas and promotes digital, contactless payments, aligning with the government’s vision for smarter, more efficient highway infrastructure.
